February is Black History Month.
Black History Month happens every February. It is an opportunity to share the historical and present contributions of Black Canadians/Americans. Black History Month began as "Negro History Week" in February in 1926 in the United States as a supplement of the curriculum.
The aim was to encourage a greater awareness and understanding of African experience in America. Later in the 1960's the week expanded into a month to commemorate through community activities and a more accurate picture of Black History. Black History Month to me, gives me the opportunity to hear about the challenges, the victories and the accomplishments.
History should be appreciated everyday, not just one month...
Breaking down barriers, one day at a time....
