BALMAIN FALL/WINTER 2010
Founded in 1945 by French couturier Pierre Balmain, when he, Christian Dior, and Cristobal Balenciaga were the design giants, the house’s elegant feminine looks quickly became a favorite among Hollywood elite, such as Brigitte Bardot and Sophia Loren, as well as European royalty. From Andrew Gn to Oscar de la Renta, Balmain has revolved over the years since Balmain’s death. After working at Paco Rabanne, Balmain’s current designer Christophe Decarnin has given the house’s more classic look a contemporary rock edge. Known for elegant evening attire with draping and pleating detail, today the look is more modern with chic, body-skimming looks, a favorite among Audrey Tatou and Sofia Coppola, who wore his dresses at the Cannes Film Festival.
